The Retreat Program Manager’s primary purpose is to program, coordinate and manage the residential retreat calendar as part of, and in collaboration with, the Programs/Communications Team. These efforts should expand and deepen Spirit Rock’s impact, influence and effectiveness and support the mission and values of Spirit Rock. This position will also work alongside the Director of Programs (DP) to nurture relationships with our teacher groups, develop our Dharma training programs and support our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusivity.

 Key Accountabilities:

  • Program, coordinate and manage systems flow of residential retreats in support of the Spirit Rock mission.
  • Oversee and insure the quality and integrity of SR residential programs in a manner that supports financial sustainability.
  • Work with the DP and SR teachers to develop and plan for Dharma training programs, including extended study and multi-year programs.
  • Hold coordination responsibility in the development of Dharma curriculum and pathways to practice.
  • Identify needs and make recommendations for new residential programs.
  • Support communication efforts of Dharma teachings and Dharma practice.
  • Partner with our Marketing and Communications team to support the sharing of our retreat calendar and all Dharma training programs.
  • Serve as an active team member of the Programs-Communications team to support all efforts of the department.
  • Play a key collaborative role and work with the Retreat Operations and Registration teams to ensure a smooth transition from retreat design and development (Programs) to execution (Operations/Registration).
  • Participate on the Leadership Team and provide leadership from a programs perspective within the context of the larger Spirit Rock organization. 

Qualifications:

  • Three to five years of experience in holding accountability for program and/or project management within an organization.
  • A deep understanding of Theravada Teachings and its intersection of the current landscape of Buddhism in western culture is required. 
  • Minimum of three to five years attendance at Insight retreats, preferably at Sprit Rock.
  • An understanding of our SR Dharma training programs such as Community Dharma Leaders, Advanced Practitioners Program, Dedicated Practitioner Program or Mindfulness Yoga Meditation Training is preferred. 
  • A solid record of developing, maintaining and expanding initiatives that are in line with organizational mission, beliefs and goals. 
  • Understanding of how to translate big picture strategy into a detailed implementation plan and ability to be a thought partner to the Director of Program. 
  • Strong written communication skills: writes with clarity and can create compelling written materials with dharma content.
  • Exceptional relational skills, experience working cross-departmentally and the ability to create and maintain effective collaborative relationships, both internally and externally.
  • Experience working with and serving multi-cultural communities is strongly preferred. 
  • Outstanding organizational, self-management and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple critical deadlines and thrive in a fast-paced environment with a multitude of needs and priorities.
