Summary

Spirit Rock offers a variety of non-residential programs online. Program formats include long and short duration retreats, benefits, class series, drop-in classes, hybrid programs, and other events. The AV Technician is responsible for the audio-visual and technology needs of online programs, including supporting and partnering with Retreat Coordinators and Teachers to troubleshoot audio-visual and other technical issues. This is a full-time position in the Programs and Online Operations Department, and reports directly to the Online Operations Manager.


Specific Responsibilities

  • Maintain ongoing knowledge of program schedules to anticipate technical needs. 
  • Partner with Retreat Coordinators and Teachers to assess and adjust AV and connectivity settings for online broadcasting situations.
  • Effectively troubleshoot AV and connectivity issues for all online presenters.
  • Partner with the Programs Team to anticipate the specific technical and quality needs of any online program that may be recorded for future use.
  • Set up, test, and operate multimedia presentations on a variety of platforms, depending on the needs of the coordinating team. Operate special hybrid and live-streamed events as assigned.
  • Collaborate with AV and technical staff in other departments regarding hybrid programs and online events that are broadcast live from Spirit Rock.
  • Train other Online Ops staff on various platforms and processes, at the direction of the Online Ops Manager.
  • Assist Retreat Coordinators with posting video recordings and other resources for participant access, and with editing and uploading audio files to Dharma Seed.
  • Assist Retreat Coordinators with other duties, as assigned by the Online Ops Manager.
  • Assist Online Ops Manager in technical and software considerations and implementations.
  • Provide recording and editing assistance to the Programs Team, when requested.
  • Coordinate with the Programs and Marketing teams to archive audio and video assets appropriately.
  • Produce and maintain documentation for integrated AV operations and technical support of online programs and productions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Minimum of three years previous audio-visual and technical experience required, especially in an online environment. 
  • Ability to assess internet connections, and audio and video quality in online broadcasting situations.
  • Experience with multimedia presentations on a variety of platforms in online and hybrid environments.
  • Basic audio and video recording and editing skills.
  • Strong understanding of and commitment to DEI principles and practices.
  • The ability to work as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal). Ability to communicate effectively with Spirit Rock stakeholders including teachers.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. Ability to coordinate multiple tasks with excellent attention to detail and follow-through, and prioritize with multiple deadlines.
  • Schedule flexibility is a critical component of this role, as many programs are produced on weekends and evenings.
