This position is part of Spirit Rock’s Resident Staff Dharma program. This work/study program allows participants to work, practice and live at Spirit Rock. The goals of the residential program are to grow in spiritual understanding and wisdom, and to learn how to practice living the teachings of the dharma in work and community.
Positions are for a one-year period, with the possibility to extend the assignment for an additional year after submission of a formal request and approval from Spirit Rock.
Resident Caretakers/Facilities Staff are stewards of the physical aspects of the Spirit Rock campus. All Caretakers/Facilities Staff are cross-trained for a wide range of duties and are responsible for Retreat Operations support including housekeeping and hospitality services during retreat opens and closes, Teacher Village support, and training and oversight of incoming retreatants, work retreatants, extra-hires, and volunteers.
Additional responsibilities include janitorial, stocking, and distribution of supplies in the Community Meditation Center and Administration buildings, and Retreat support including set-up and parking coordination. All resident staff share responsibility for the 24/7 safety and security of the campus.
Other responsibilities, based on individual skills, may include: facilities maintenance and repair such as plumbing, electrical, painting, carpentry and light construction, landscaping, irrigation, land and trail management, coordination and oversight of vendors and volunteers, and event support.

This is a 37.5 hours/week position with changes in schedule as needed to support retreats. Unless otherwise pre-arranged, working retreat opening and closing days is required of all caretakers. The work week is not Monday to Friday and the assignment of days off will be based on the retreat schedule as well as the shared Caretaker.
All operations staff work together to complete the needed duties while we are ramping up post-COVID shut-down and always during normal circumstances when someone is on vacation, retreat or out sick. This means you may have to take on tasks outside the normal scope of your job. Flexibility and an attitude of service are a requirement for this role.
